I have been reviewing a lot of questions from Career personnel in the US and UK concerning adding a photograph mainly a passport (a head and shoulder picture) to a CV.
There is a popular saying “A picture says a thousand” and yes it does.
In this article, I will be explaining everything you need to know about putting a passport in your CV. The merits and demerits.
There is nothing on your CV that will suggest a faster decision than your passport. With a glance at your passport the interviewer will deduce a lot assumption on you. He will assume your Sex, Age, trace and culture.
He may say to himself or tell his colleague
‘’I don’t really like this guy’s face he looks troublesome and probably will cause a lot of trouble if he is given the Job and we need someone that will always smile even during hard time”
Let’s say you have this happy, friendly and smiling face, a face every parent will love then you might get the love required to be invited for the interview. But nevertheless, you are putting yourself in a situation of good and bad choice.
Your passport is a very sensitive information which you should reveal only when it is necessary. If it falls into the wrong hands, you are putting yourself at risk of identity theft.
Regardless if the company is in America or United Kingdom, you do not need your passport number on your CV. If a passport number is ever required, it would only be after you have been hired.
With a Passport in C.V you are just looking for trouble. No matter what you look like you will be viewed and decided upon with little or no reference to the better career and educational background information you must have offered them
The demerits of putting a passport in your Resume are listed below
- It removes the recruiter’s attention from the very important information you have given in the educational background and career.
- What if the Recruiter is a racist?? passport in CV not be his thing when you are not his race. Your business with them is done
- Your face may not look promising, you may look so mean and angry. No one wants to work with an angry man
Nevertheless, if the Job you are applying for is a modelling Job and you look so damn beautiful, sending in your picture may give you an edge over other applicant but who knows
What the recruiter may just say upon seeing the picture is “she is so full of herself….Rubbish” your application is already a trash then.
